Jennifer Blake: 5 ways to get inspired

5 ways to get inspired

June 25, 2013

I feel like I have been in a rut lately. I haven't felt particularly inspired and I felt like the same content had been getting published over and over in blogland. I am guilty of that sometimes, seeing a post I like and doing one similar. I want something new and fresh though, so I tried to think about the ways I feel best inspire me to stay creative and fresh. Maybe they will help you?

I know I can be guilty of reading blogs and looking at what everyone else is doing, but not actually do anything myself. I get into a mood where I feel almost jealous that everyone is doing all of this awesome stuff and that I wish I could do it. In reality, I can do it! I just need to get off my computer or phone and actually make the effort.
I also realized that sometimes just picking up my notebook and doodling sparks some creativity and fun ideas, it is so simple and so helpful to just turn my brain off while I draw and eventually creativity strikes!
I have a love hate relationship with Pinterest. I love how awesome and inspiring it can be, but only if I am actually making or doing what I pin. I get into a habit of going pinning crazy and then I never make any of them. Whats the point if you don't try what you pin? I think it can help people get or stay inspired, but only if used correctly.
Our apartment has come a long way since we moved in, but is no where near fully decorated. Last week I was sitting on the couch staring at a blank wall and decided to get up and start painting. The wall needed something to spice it up. So look around is there something around you that needs some love?
Nature, how glorious it is. Take you camera and just go walk. I bet you come home refreshed and somewhat inspired.

How do you stay inspired?

  1. I totally know what you mean. I have been feeling uninspired lately too. I was thinking the other day that "I have a totally boring life" and then I had to slap myself (well not really) and say you are the only one who can change your life from boring to being fun.

I unfortunately have not done much of anything yet. I am still being lazy. The weather isn't helping much either. But hopefully I can kick myself in the butt a few times to get my butt inspired and doing something.

I hope you have a good one.

  2. These are all things that inspire me too! Especially the one about doodling and drawing. It's something I haven't done for a while, but need to start back up again. And don't even get started with Pinterest lol! I could furnish a mansion with all the stuff I've pinned!

  3. I love your comment about Pinterest-- I am better at making recipes than DIY projects I pin! But it's a great way to hold yourself accountable :)

Connecting with you is my favorite. Thanks for stopping by!
