Introducing the 12x30 Challenge

After a couple of weeks of talking about goals that we hope to accomplish, and sharing ideas about how we'd like to connect more with our readers in the New Year, Kym from Travel Babbles and I have decided to partner up for 2014 to create The 12x30 Challenge.

What is The 12x30 Challenge, you say? Well, our vision for The 12x30 Challenge is this: The first Monday of every month in 2014 we will kick-start specific month long challenges, encouraging our readers to join in and document their journeys along the way on Instagram and Twitter using hashtag #12x30challenge. At the end of the month we will post a recap of what we did and how it all went,  and then we'll move on to the next challenge.

The great thing about The 12x30 Challenge is that you do not have to join us every day or even every month, however we will be motivating ourselves and our readers to do so, encouraging and inspiring everyone to start living the best lives that they possibly can by making small, positive changes each month.

Jenn and I will also be picking our favorite #12x30challenge Instagram and Twitter pictures every Sunday and featuring them on our blogs - so track your progress and share it using the appropriate hashtag, and you could be featured on our blogs!

The different challenges that we have decided on for the year can be found below, and the first challenge starts TODAY! Are you ready?


January: Photo Challenge
Snap a photo on your phone or with your camera every day. It will be a great way to capture small and large moments throughout the month, as well as give you practice with your photography skills. We realize January has already started, which is why we are starting with a photo challenge, because it is an easy way to jump right on board!

February: No Spend Challenge
Try going for the whole month without spending money on anything other than necessities like groceries and bills. We're leaving Valentine's Day up to you - you could follow the challenge by making a gift or dinner, or consider this a "necessity" for your relationship, if you choose.

March: Cooking Challenge
Imagine how much money we would save if we made it a habit to cook at home more often? Try taking this entire month to skip going to restaurants, and challenge yourself to try new recipes.

April: Walk/Run Every Day Challenge
Lace up your sneakers or throw on a comfortable pair of flip-flops and take a run or walk every day this month. It doesn't have to be a long distance, just get some fresh air and a little exercise.

May: Random Acts Of Kindness Challenge
Spend the month trying to give back to the community and people around you. These acts could be as simple as holding the door for someone, or buying the person behind you a cup of coffee. Random acts of kindness do not have to be monetary, so get creative and spread some cheer!

June: Try Something New Challenge
This month is all about trying that one thing that you have been wanting to try forever. Have you wanted to learn to sew or knit? Take a class at your local craft store. Have you wanted to learn the guitar that has been sitting in your closet all these months? Check out a book from the library and teach yourself! Or you could finally start making all those crafts and DIYs you pinned on Pinterest!

July: Reading Challenge
Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our day that it is easy to forget the book that has been collecting dust on our bedside tables. This is the perfect chance to set aside time to get lost in a book or two.

August: Define A Goal And Work It Challenge
Think about where you are right now and where you want to be. Pick a goal that you have - it could be something you set at the beginning of the year or something totally new - and work a little bit each day this month on that goal.

September: Write or Blog Every Day Challenge
Get those creative juices flowing, and be prepared to write or blog every day this month. Don't worry - we will provide some writing prompts and ideas to help you complete this #12x30challenge!

October: Yoga Challenge
Yoga is such a great stress reliever, and we want to practice finding our centers before the hectic holiday season officially begins. This month, we encourage you to find a yoga studio in your area, or practice at home along with us each day. We'll provide the daily challenges, you bring the mat ;) 

November: Hand Written Letters Challenge
Create a list of thirty friends, family or strangers and send them a little snail mail love this month. Nothing says "I'm thinking of you!" quite like a hand written letter.

December: Practice Gratitude Challenge
With the holidays in full swing it can be easy to get wrapped up in the busyness of it all. We encourage you to still be present while shopping for presents by writing down at least one thing that you are grateful for each day. This will be a great reminder of the season and how blessed we all are.
