Jennifer Blake: The Power of Your Story

The Power of Your Story

April 16, 2014

Sometimes I see someone walking down the street and I want to go up to them, shake them, ask them who they are and what their story is. I have a love and passion to hear peoples stories, because our stories matter. Our words matter. Your story doesn't have to have a happy-ever-after, it doesn't have to have a big twist or sad middle...it just has to be authentic and yours in order for it to matter.

I want to get to the bones of who you are. I want to know your big scary dreams. I want to know what makes you angry and what lights you up like nothing else. I want to know how you feel this very moment. Sometimes the best thing we can do is ask someone how they are feeling...and when you ask it don't jump in and say something about yourself, but really listen to them. Tell them you hear them and tell them you love them...then tell them to share their story because someone somewhere needs to hear it. You have the power to change someones life or maybe the power to change the whole world, by simply using your words and sharing.

So whats my story?

I'm a 24 year old girl who loves to drown out the world with Taylor Swift.
I'm the girl who feels like good is never good enough.
I'm the girl who wishes to change the world, even in a small way.
I'm the girl who cries...over everything.
I'm the girl who scribbles song lyrics and quotes down in a journal on a daily basis.
I'm the girl that needs alone time or I'll be moody.
I'm the girl that needs to write it all out, but I am also the girl that is too afraid to share it out loud.
I'm the girl with her headphones on singing "You take my hand and drag me head first fearless" under my breath while I'm walking down the road.
I'm the girl that has anxiety about everything.
I'm the girl smiling and trying to cheer everyone up, even if the day has been long and terrible.
I'm the girl ready to share more 'real' life and use the power of my words to make a difference.
