Jennifer Blake: FAQS

FAQS

New here? I would start here or here or here.

Where do you currently live?
We currently live in NH in a small town by the seacoast. We have been in our townhouse since early August and plan to stay until at least August 2016.

What do you do for work? What does your husband do for work?
I currently work as a pediatric occupational therapist in Massachusetts. I work with kids birth to three providing early intervention services in their homes. I love what I do but it is not my ideal field. I recently just started working at an outpatient pediatric therapy clinic in NH! If you don't know what an occupational therapist does, check out this post! My husband is a physical therapist at an outpatient orthopedic clinic in NH.

Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging in September 2011 because I needed an outlet and I have always loved to write. I was at an in-between time in my life, Aaron was in school full time and we had just moved to Boston. I had not yet started school and I needed something to do, blogging became something I fell in love with and I can't imagine not having my blog now.

What camera do you use?
I use a Nikon D3200 and primarily use my 50mm lens. I have a few others that I use as well, but my 50mm lens is my baby and tends to stay on my camera the most. I hope to upgrade the camera body in the near future!

What is the best advice you can give to someone starting a blog?
I would say that you need to stay authentic. I used to read blogs like crazy and get so overwhelmed and would constantly compare myself to others. It took me a while to find my voice, but I know who I am and my writing style now. I would also say that everyone says to find your niche,  I just could never pinpoint one specific thing I wanted to write about. This is my story, why does it have to be about just one thing? I decided it doesn't and consider it a lifestyle blog and anything is fair game to write about. Don't let someone tell you, you have to pick one niche to be successful.
